Yamaha YZF-R15 : Chennai's test ride updates

Yamaha had today invited automotive journalists to come and test ride the new YZF-R15 on the Sriperumbudur racing circuit in Chennai.

Highlights:

1. The bike feels like a 19-20bhp machine.
2. Very good gearing
3. Excellent handling
4. Riders hit 120km/h easily. Later, one of the journalists confirmed that the bike hit around 126km/h in 5th gear, with one more to go!
5. Lot of accidents. One major, one minor, one off-roading!

Will keep you guys updated for more. But in short, it seems, the riders fell in love with the bike

  11. guys, Yamaha has given India a good bike, but at the end of the day, cubic capacity RULES! Youtube has a video of P220 v/s R15 drag, where it is clear that P220 simply lords it over the Yamaha, leaving it to eat dust. And mind you, this drag race was performed by professionals, and both the bikes were in similar condition. In the city, P220 will have a disadvantage owing to it's larger dimensions, but a small stretch to wring the throttle, and Yamaha will be a small speck in P220's rear-view mirror. I once had my classic apache modded mildly(no cam/head jobs. not even a carb re-jetting. just had a PROTON silencer,k&N air filter, and had the carb re-tuned by an expert).my bike used 2 touch and cross 130 kph(on speedo) and made P200 and ZMA eat dust in almost no time, but not so with P220. I tried my luck many a times with P220, and i usually managed 2 stay ahead initially till 50 kph, then 220 would catch up..we'd stay neck-to-neck till arnd 90-95 kph, thenafter 220 used 2 slowly move ahead, but it never managed to run away(owing to much higher top speed of my bike compared to a stock apache, i guess).

I hope Yamaha will launch bikes with a bit higher cubic capacity, bcoz the chasis that the r15 uses, is substancially superior to what we Indians are used to till date, and has the capability to handle much higher power output from the engine. R15 is just the beginning, that's what i'd like to think.
