TVS APACHE RTR VS YAMAHA FZ16
Without a doubt, the bike that Yamaha's FZ16 will be competiting against will be the TVS Apache RTR. We try to pit these two bikes against each other to see which has a potential to be the winner
RTR FZ16
ENGINE 159.7CC 153CC
POWER(PS) 15.4 @ 8500 14.0 @ 7500
TORQUE(NM) 13.1 @ 6000 13.6 @ 6000
TOP SPEED 118.7 KM/H 110.9 KM/H
0-60KM/H 5.04 SEC 5.51 SEC
MILEAGE 50 KMPL 43.5 KMPL
The TVS Apache RTR seems to have a powerful engine, but the FZ16 strikes back with more torque. Performance wise, the RTR again has the lead, hitting a true 118.7km/h which is around 125km/h on the speedometer. The Yamaha FZ16 on the other hand manages around 110.9km/h on the test equipment or around 120km/h on the speedometer.
Where the Yamaha FZ16 shines, in our opinion, is in the city. The comfortable riding position, the torquey engine etc.
On the looks front, the FZ16 is the clear winner. The ultra sexy fat 140mm rear tyre, wide forks, awesome tank etc, all make the bike look the best in India, by a far margain.
Stunts wise, we think, both the bikes are equally good. However, the RTR is a track bike, and will make the Yamaha FZ16 eat dust on the track.
Coming to the last, the pricing
On the road cost, Pune
TVS Apache RTR : Rs 67,151
Yamaha FZ16 : Rs 72,500
The FZ16 is expensive by Rs more than five thousand! Thats a lot of money.
But you get the looks, the quality and nimble handing. The looks alone tempt you into going for the FZ16.... We want to hear what you think - participate in the poll (see right side of this blog page). Let us know what you think by commenting on this post too!

The RTR has serious competition now. Looks like the FZ16 beats it on all accounts barring the outright performance. The FZ16 is my choice
ReplyDeleteballz,..RTR stands out as d best in evry aspect...looks wise FZ may b d winer,..bt wid such outrageius tank,.itz highly dangerous!!!
ReplyDeleteAPACHE RTR ROXX
FZ16 looks awesome and beats RTR in that front without any doubt..but am only worried about the absense of kickstart..i am a frequent traveller..will the electric start work if i try it after a month or so..i dont wanna go to the service station after every 1 month gap..
ReplyDeleteture it is...but i must say in speed in milage in rigidity..RTR is beating FZ16 as i was very keen about FZ..but have a closer look at it...The tank seems to be very big but it isnt..actually its a fibre covering that is making it look mascular.and if u look carefully the gap between handle and tank its cms...one thurst and the tank is gone...no slot for legguard and the height is too short...lets face.leaving behind the looks...RTR completely beats FZ
ReplyDeleteThe real thing is efzee is by YAMAHA. I really wanted to go for Apache but I think again when it comes to the name TVS.
ReplyDeleteI can buy any one of CBZ-xtreme/hunk/apache even today but still I will wait for a month or two to grab FZ(finance issues).
I feel RTR-FI is great but is way out of budget. If it had a comparative price to FZ I would have thought of that. Another drawback with that is FI comes in only Orange & Black whereas the best colors with Apache are sexy Yellow and Gray.
I have test driven FZ & I think thats the best bike in 150 seg.
i still think the apache is the best, I do agree that Fz16 have good looks but on the other side the apache also have attractive looks. apart from this there is no threat to apache's reputations. TVS Apache rocks...!!!
ReplyDeleteApache RTR rocks....i bought it for 64k n ma frnd has got an fz for 73k....so i can feed lot of fuel to it....plus it looks great.... its tail lights r d sexiest....its good on highway (can cruise arount 85-90kmph )
ReplyDeleteThe FZ 16 is a great bike, However, I would like to know what modifications and changes you would like to see in the bike that you think might beat the RTR if it hasn't already.
ReplyDeleteBy the way did you know that Yamaha's FZ 16 and R 15 have swept all bike awards in India in the last one year. Check them out here. Also find some more breathtaking pics of the FZ16.
hello Kishor
ReplyDeleteWant to beat RTR Fi... Shall we meet one day? fix the time... i am ready to meat your FZ with my FI.
I know your FZ will bite dust...
